Cell Phone Registration

Rules for cell phone registrations
  1. Post Paid Only: Only cell phones with “post-paid” billing arrangements will be allowed
    • Post-paid cell phone users choose a calling plan and pay for services at the end of each monthly billing cycle.
    • Examples: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
  2. Pre-paid NOT allowed: Pre-paid cell phones are not allowed due to TDCJ security policies, and will NOT be approved
    • Pre-paid cell phone users pay for services in advance.
    • Examples: TracFone, Boost Mobile, Verizon Prepaid, Cricket, Metro, and T-Mobile Prepaid.
  3. Multiple Services Allowed: You may register your landline phone AND your cell phone.
  4. Separate registration of each number: You must register each number and service.
    • If you are registering more than one cell phone, you must register each cell phone separately

  • TDJC only allows registration of "Post-Paid" cell phone services at this time
  • Registration of pre-paid services such as TracFone, Boost, Metro, Cricket, Verizon Prepaid, and others can NOT be approved
  • Repeated attempts to register pre-paid cell phones will risk your number being blocked from receiving calls from a TDCJ offender.
